Finnian

Finnian
(c. 495–579)
   Saint and Order Founder.
Finnian was a native of Ireland. He went to Rome to be ordained and then returned home, bringing with him a Latin vulgate and a Pentateuch. He formed a monastic house at Moville and many legends are connected with him. He is now regarded as the patron saint of Northern Ireland. He is not to be confused with St Finnian of Clonard (d. 549) who is thought to have established monasticism in Ireland.
